Well it is not just me.  Apparently Fly Fisherman magazines Recon fly rod review agrees as well.  The new Orvis Recon is dead nuts awesome, and at the top of the extremely popular mid-price rod category.  Better yet, just like the award winning Helios, the rods are built 100% in America, if that is your bag of beans as it seems for many to be.  So throw your TFO in the hole it belongs in, Orvis has kicked up its rod game.

In hand these rods are lightweight, and the cosmetics are nothing short of sexy.  Built with stealth in mind, a shadow green blank and black nickel hardware mesh nicely to ensure that Brown trout will never knew what whooped him. Curb appeal aside, man can these things track and cast.   Considered fast action, you will be amazed how little line it takes to load these rods in close, but they can still double haul fat and juicy tandem streamers to the far bank, pronto.  From sipping midges to dunking nymphs, the Recon is on it.

The tapers of the rods are inspired by the Helios.  In fact, if it was not for the Helios, I would probably consider this the finest rod ever made.  Needless to say when you are the stealth bomber off-spring of the finest fishing tool known to man, you are going to do just fine.  The Recons is built with a proprietary blend of both intermediate and high modulus graphite and standard resins, not the thermoplastics resin used in the Helios.  Each taper and action is specifically designed and built to be the ideal design for that particular rod.  What does this mean to you?  Just pick a length and weight, Orvis has the action covered.  Wait, we simplified rods to the point of purchasing one is enjoyable?  Cool.

Everything about this rod screams top shelf.   Even the cordura rod tube is gone.  Who would have thought you can get an aluminum rod tube with your rod for under $800.  It is a miracle Orvis has made a reality. Fully backed by Orvis’s 25 year warranty these rods really are a class act.  In a year where the mid-price rod seems to be king, the Recon is seriously at the top of the class, enough said.

Check them out for yourself or take advantage of the outfit discount.
