Northern California Fly Fishing Report 2-17-19

Northern California Fish Report

A fishing report for the Lower Sac and Trinty from Guide and Fly Stop Ambassador Dave Neal.

Trinity River Steelhead-
We've had some turbulent storms this past week in Northern California.
The results of these storms have us slightly ahead (2”) of "normal" for
rainfall and looking good for water content in the snowpack. Woot Woot.
This is great news for salmon, steelhead and wild trout fisheries all over
California and especially here in the North state. Perhaps we are finally
looking into the rearview mirror at the drought that has plagued us for
many years?

Forget Turkey, Thanksgiving’s for Trout

As has been tradition for the last four years, we decided to forgo camping outside of Best Buy for a screaming deal on a 8k, 80” OLED TV or robotic vacuum or whatever the hottest consumer electronic is of the year, and make the trek to the Eastern Sierras to chase a better Black Friday Quarry.

Korean Trout

Korean Trout

By Dave Smith

Beautiful-Small-Korean-Trout

When we think of South Korea, out first thought probably goes to consumer electronics, like LG or Samsung or to the ongoing North/ South Korea conflict.  What we probably don’t think about is fly fishing.

Turns out that South Korea manufacturers a majority of fly fishing gear for big name companies like Hardy/Greys, Sage, Redington, etc., and while this article isn’t on fly gear and where it’s manufactured, it’s interesting that a country that makes such a wide variety of fly gear isn’t thought of as a destination to catch fish on a fly, let alone a trout on a fly rod.
