Mammoth Lakes and Creek

Mammoth is known as one of the most challenging and rewarding fishing destinations in the west. The wonder and beauty of the Eastern Sierra, with crystal clear lakes and streams, will hold you spell bound.

There are a number of lakes in the immediate area that are very condusive to fly fishing.  The most popular of these are Twin Lakes, Lake Mary, and Lake George.  If lake fishing isn't your thing, than places like Hot Creek, Mammoth Creek, and the Upper Owens River, are sure to get your blood flowing.

Fishing in this area can be done in a variety of ways - from shore or a boat, from a float tube, or by walking and wading. Mammoth also has plenty of fly shops and guides that can help you with your fishing needs while you are in the area. If it is your first time fishing in this area, hiring an experienced guide from a local fly shop is highly recommended.  He or she will be able to show you productive spots for the time of year, and most importantly, how to catch the fish that live there.

Mono County fishing season starts the last Saturday in April and ends on November 15th of every year, however, the catch and release fisheries of the Upper Owens River above the Benton Bridge to Big Springs, the East Walker River below Bridgeport Reservoir, and Hot Creek, will remain open year round.

Anglers 16 years of age and older must have a fishing license. You can purchase an annual, one-day or two-day fishing license (valid for two consecutive calendar days). Information concerning license requirements, places to purchase and fees maybe obtained from the Department of Fish & Wildlife or by calling 760-934-2664.
