Farmington River

The Farmington River is one of the premier trout fisheries in the state of Connecticut. It is a cold water release, tailwater fishery. This creates consistent water temperatures, water flows, and hatch activity all year long.  The most consistent fishing can be found from Farmington down to Riverton. Down stream of Riverton however, the river slows and becomes primarily a warm water fishery.

The Farmington River is moderate in size and consists of mainly softball-sized cobble. This makes wading here fairly easy.  Access here is very good as many roads parallel its banks, making it easy for anglers to park, walk-in, and fish.

The biggest fish can be found in the trout management area. This area does however receive a lot of angling pressure, making these fish very well educated. Long light leaders are the name of the game here, and flies must be accurately presented in order to feed these fish.
