North Fork Cherry

The North Fork of the Cherry River is begins in southeastern portion of Pocahontas County. There's a 1.8 mile "catch and release, fly fishing only"  section of the North Fork of the Cherry River. It is located upstream from the Richwood water supply dam to first state Route #39 bridge you come to. You can access this section from state Route #39. Fly fishing the North Fork Cherry River is best in this catch and release section. Upstream from the bridge the river is managed under normal put and take regulations and the the overall fish population is not well established here.

The North Fork of the Cherry is stocked with rainbows, browns and some golden rainbow trout, or otherwise known as palamino's. It also has a native population of brook trout. Popular flies used to catch fish on this river include Eggs, San Juan Worms, Pheasant Tails, and Woolly Buggers.

The river is a small, pristine stream that usually runs clear and fast. There are plenty of good runs and deep pools here to keep anglers occupied all day long. Also the access is made easy with tons of pull-offs along route 39/55. In many of these areas, the stream is well covered with overhanging tree limbs and bushes making for very technical casting and presentaions. Make sure you practice your bow and arrow casting techniques before attempting to fish this river.
