Discount Flies
Cheap Fly Fishing Flies
Discount flies can be found everywhere nowadays. From little Joey sitting in his Mom’s basement tying them and selling them online, to major retailers like The Fly Stop, it’s certainly easy to get cheap fly fishing flies.
The thing about discount flies is that you need to know what to look for when buying them. First of all, what types of hooks are they tied on? Do they come from brand name manufacturers like Mustad, Gamakatsu, and Fire Hole Stix? Or are they extra cheap fly fishing flies, tied on some no-name, low budget hook that no one has ever heard of? If they are, chances are the hook will bend out or even break when it matters the most… right when you are fighting that fish of a lifetime. Secondly, where do they source the materials from? Are their discount flies made from high-quality material sources like Whiting Hackles, Cascade Crest, and Wapsi? Or do they come from no-name craft stores and third-party distributors. Thirdly, how are they proportioned? Is the hackle bigger than one-and-a-half times the hook gap? Do they have a nice taper to them? Do the colors of the materials match the shade of the insects like our dry caddis flies and dry mayflies are trying to imitate, as well as our other salmon flies and steelhead flies? These are all very important factors when browsing and evaluating discount fly fishing flies.
However, the most important thing about buying discount flies is, does the company stand behind their product? Are they backing what they sell? Are they willing to take them back if you are not happy with them? This is all very important when buying cheap fly fishing flies.
Discount flies are great for filling up your fly box. If you like to fish a particular pattern, make sure to order multiple of them. Ordering them by the dozen will do you good, as oftentimes we will give you a “bulk discount” on the price. Discount flies also make great gifts to give to fly fishers, especially . They enable you to affordably fill up a fly box and prepare a fly angler to fish in a variety of situations, and cover a multitude of hatches.
The next time you are in the market for fly fishing flies, we highly suggest you check out our tried-and-true, ever popular Parachute Adams fly and Blue Winged Olive Parachute. Guaranteed you won’t be disappointed!
