Umpqua HDA FAV Variant

This nymph is an awesome searching pattern. When I'm fishing new water and am not sure what exactly the fish want I will go to this pattern. With the pearl tinsel back, soft hackle collar and hotspot, this fly has presence in the water. However, this pattern works well as an emerger, with lots of movement created from the soft hackle collar. I typically fish this on a dead drift, but definitely allow this fly to swing out to finish the drift. Depending on the size it works well during your drake hatch down to your beatis. Since it is tied on a competition jig hook, I do fish this primarily on a euro–rig, but I have suspended this fly off indicators for clients, and dropped it off of a dry fly.
